Pirate Word Of the Day # 1

his is the first in a series of Pirate words and phrases, to educate all those non-pirates out there.

Keelhaul ~ Punishment by dragging under the ship, from one side to the other. The victim of a keelhauling would be half-drowned, or worse, and lacerated by the barnacles that grew beneath the ship.

  1. we in the Netherlands say 'kielhalen' so I think it is a Dutch word from origine:-)
    the 'kiel' is underside of a ship
